Powder traceability is a crucial part of the medical implant manufacturing process and plays a critical role in ensuring product quality and safety. When it comes to additive manufacturing and the powder used to produce medical implants, there is a perception that recycling powder and maintaining traceability is a challenge. However, the FDA allows for the reuse of powders for medical devices printed with AM. Tracing used powder through its recycling process is critical. Today’s largest medical implant suppliers have embraced used and recycled powder but place high demands that the powder coming back meets the stringent qualification.
